Our Big Boy Derick

Derick is 100% Daddy's little boy and helper. He LOVES to spend time with Russell. It melts my heart. He will copy every littel thing Russell dose even the way he is sitting. He is also a little shadow to Russell. I love to watch him. He is a t a stage right now were he is learning new things every day and figuring out now things. It is such a fun stage.

Derick will remind us that we need to have family prayer by coming to us and folding his arms. It is so cut. He has to help us shake Makayla's bottles every time she needs one. He has a play cell phone and he will talk on it a and then laugh and talk some more. It is pretty funny to watch. ( I guess he watch me to much on the phone.)

Derick is starting to say some words. He will say Dad, mom, baby, hi, and a few others but it is pretty hit and miss right now. Like he has not said mom in a week or so everything right now is baby and dad. But he sure know how to shake his head no and he knows what that means.

Derick is such a fun little boy and we are enjoying this chance to raise him.

Our Baby Makayla

Makayla is now 3 months old and such a smiley little girl. She has really sad moments but when she is not sad she is always smiling. She is such a fun baby. She has started to roll form her back to her tummy. Derick likes to join her and lay on his tummy right beside her. She is also a great sleeper. She is out for the night by 9 and she only wakes up once to eat around 5 or so. I am so blessed in that way.

She has turned into such a Mommy's little girl. She is OK with others if she is sleeping or if they are feeding her but besides that she wants her mommy and she will let you know about it. For the first 2 months she always wanted Russel but now she has swapped. It's probably a good thing because Derick is a Daddy's boy and no one else measures up to his dad.

We are having a lot of fun watching Makayla grow. She has such a funny laugh it sounds a bit like an old lady that has been smoking her whole life. It makes us laugh to hear her. We are happy that she is in our family.

Derick 16 months, Makayla 3 months

I must say I got blessed with some really cute kids. Derick loves his little sister so much and she loves him back. He always wants to kiss her and she just lets him and gives him a big smile. She is already a tough little girl. But then again she has to be with him around. He has now learned how to be gentle. That took a bit but he is getting it. It is so fun to watch them grow and change every day.

Makayla at 6 weeks

It is hard to believe that Makayla is already 6 weeks old. This may sound crazy but it makes me a bit sad. She is growing up so fast. When Derick was a little baby the time could not go fast enough. I wanted to see him learn new things and grow up but with Makayla it is going way to fast. She is such a sweet baby. She is happy for the most part and a pretty good sleeper. Nights are still really hard on me because I have 2 of them getting up in the night but at least they both go back to sleep pretty easy.

Derick is loving being a big brother. He loves to hug, kiss and hold his little sister. He has not gotten the whole be soft thing but we are working on it every day. If Makayla is crying he will go and get her a toy or try to put her binki in her mouth. What a big helper!

Life with 2 babies is a tun of work some days I am ready to give up but one little giggle or a hug can change my mind.

Derick's Boo Boo

Derick was playing with Makayla's car seat and tipped over in it. His binki is was cut his cheek. I was shocked that a binki could do that. It really is not as bad as it looks. It is healing pretty good. I just hope that there is not a scar.

The week of the 4th

Russell had the whole week of the 4th off so we had a little mini vacation. We went to the Omaha zoo with his family on Monday. It was a lot of fun. Derick seemed to like it for the most part. He was just starting to get over strep so he was not himself yet. We made the best of it. Makayla is way to young to care either way she just needed fed and changed and she was happy.
We were able to go to Grand Island for 4 days and spend time with family. We stayed at a hotel so Derick got to go swimming for the first time. He really liked it. We spent a lot of time with Russell's family that was visiting form Utah. It was fun for Derick to play with his cousins.
On the 4th we went to Dallas's and Shannon's for the big bash. It was a lot of fun. Two years in a row I have had really small babies to take care of on the 4th. I am not planning on that next year.
I was also able to spend time shopping with Lindsey and my mom. It was fun we even went and got a pedicure. I had never had one. I think I am hooked now. It was so fun and relaxing.
It was a fun little get away even if it was only an hour away.

Makayla just hanging out at the zoo. She was such a good baby. We tried to keep her out of the sun as much as we could. It was a pretty hot day.

Derick loved the gorillas. They seemed to always come over to the window were he was looking. At one time he was nose to nose with one and he did not even react to it besides a smile. It was pretty funny.

Derick with Daddy.

The petting zoo. Derick loved the straw better then the goat. He was a bit overwhelmed.

Makayla's Blessing

Makayla Aubrey was blessed on June 28 by her Daddy. It was such a neat time. We ended up having over 25 family members come and support us. After the blessing every one came over to our house for a little lunch. It was so fun to visit with every one. Russell's sister Sherry and her husband Jeff were visiting from Utah. It was fun to get to spend time with them.

My mom made this beautiful blessing dress. I had her kind of go off of the style of my wedding dress. She dose such a great job. Abbi took the pictures while she was visiting. Russell's mom left her camera here for us to play with for a bit. I love it. Thanks Mom, Abbi, and RosaLee

A visit from the Penn family

My cousin Abbi and her 3 kids came and visited for about 5 days. It was so much fun. IT is crazy to have 5 kids in one house all 3 and under but we managed. It was pretty funny because before she came we had a tun of plans of stuff we were going to do. Well reality set in and it was not passable with so many young kids. I am not sure what the heck we were thinking. But we made the best of it. Abbi was able to help me put some vinyl lettering on my living room wall. I love this saying it is so fitting. While they were here Derick ended up with strep throat. Talk about not fun at all. Well you know how little kids are they had all been sharing cups and binkis so 2 of her kids ended up with it also. I feels so bad. I am just glad that Abbi's girls did not get it as bad as Derick had it.
Abbi will be coming back this way in Aug and this time she will have her husband with her so maybe we can leave the kids with the guys and have a fun night out.

Two Is Twice The Work

When we only had Derick we had many people tell us that one child is so easy and that you can do anything with one child. I would think in my head "they don't have a Derick!" Well I must say that every one that told us that is right. Life gets a bit more crazy when you add another one to the mix.
I swear that there is always someone needing something. The feedings and poop never ends and don't even get me started on the no sleep factor. I told Russell that I feel like a robot. There is no time for emotion you just keep going to get done what needs to get done. Some how the Lord gives me energy to put a smile on my face and do what I need to do and make sure that the kids are fed, changed and happy.
I love having Makayla in our family, She is such a sweet little baby. She is so happy for the most part. It is fun to watch Derick with her. He loves his little sister. ( a bit to much at times) If she is crying he comes and gets us. He trys to help her with her binkey and he always makes sure that she has a blanket. Because he is so young himself he dose not understand the work gentle of soft but we are still working on that. I think if we would let him he would love her to death. We always have to make sure that Makayla is higher then he can reach or we put her in a pack and play or the crib.
Russell loves having a little girl. He is so cute with her it melts my heart. He will hold her for hours and than put her down to wrestle with Derick. He has been coming home from work and taking Makayla so that Derick and I can sleep in. That is such a blessing! I am sure that he enjoys that one on one time with Makayla also.
The Lord has truly blessed us with two healthy kids that are such a joy in our life. When Derick first saw Makayla you could just tell that he knew her before they were both born. He is ready for her to grow up and play with him. I really could not be more thankful to my Father in Heaven for my family.

Makayla Aubrey

Makayla Aubrey
Born May 28, 2009
7 lb 11oz
20 1/2 inches long

Makayla came into our family a bit slower than I would of hoped. It took 15 and a half hours of labor but we are sure happy to have her. She is such a happy baby. She only make noise if she is hungry or her tummy hurts.
Derick is such a good helper he has to know were she is at all times. He is so helpful and he loves his new sister. It took him a few days to adjust but he is dong much better now.

One year old!

Derick has now tuned one year old. Let me just say that he is much happier this year then what he was last year. I do not miss his colic one bit! On his birthday we got him a bit Tonka dump truck. He really likes to go for rides in it and put rocks in the back of it. On his birthday we played outside with him for a long time. He was having a great time. That night he had Lydia and Clare from church come over for a little birthday party. They had Elmo cupcakes and ice cream.
A few days after Derick's birthday we had family come from Grand Island to celebrate. It was fun to have Russell's and my family's together. It is always a bit wired but fun. Lindsey and Brett came early to help me get ready for the party. Lindsey decorated the Elmo cake and did a great job. If I would have done it it would have been a disaster. Russell and Brett made chocolate covered pretzels. We also had little smokies, spinach dip, pasta salad, chips and dip, puppy chow, and a vegetable tray. Derick got a tun of toys. Most of them are annoying Elmo toys that make a lot of noise. But he also got a train, tools, cloths, books, and a magic writer. I think there was a total of 2 Grandpa's , 2 Grandma's, 4 Aunts, 5 uncles, and 3 cousins. It was a house full.

We are so thankful to have Derick in our family. He is such a joy and he make us laugh every day. We are so blessed to have him. His little smile and his giggle melt my heart. He loves his daddy so much. I love to see how excited he gets when he sees Russell. I am so thankful that we are an eternal family. The Lord has blessed us so much this past year. We love you Derick.

What would you like me to cook for you?

Derick back at work in the kitchen. He loves to help out while we are cooking. He will sit on the floor and play like he is cooking. It is so cute to watch. He loves all kitchen utensils. I am fine with it until I go to bake and can't find a dang measuring spoon or cup. When I lived with my parents I never could figure out why my mom never had a complete set of measuring spoons or cups. Well Derick has taught me a thing or two about that. I only have one kid and my mom had 6. I bet she went through so many sets for measuring spoons and cups. I now have a better understanding.

All Ready For Easter Sunday

We went to Grand Island for Easter to see family. Derick looked so cut in his new little outfit. I made sure to find him an Easter outfit because I had such a hard time finding a Christmas outfit. He looks so handsome. We had to split our time between Russell's family and my family. It was a bit tricky because the dinners were only a half hour apart but it worked out OK. My parents put on an Easter egg hunt for all of the grand kids. It was a bit crazy. Derick walked over to one egg and picked it up and he was happy just sucking on one. He only had 25 more to find. Joe Joe and Cassidy made sure to help him. It was fun to be home and spend time with family. We had not been home since Christmas. Now I am looking forward to the 4th of July, for another big family bash. But by then we will have 2 babies!

Peek-a-boo

Derick has learned how to play peek-a-boo and cover his own eyes. It is so fun to watch him play. He will cover his eyes for the longest time because he is peeking through his fingers. He then will finely pull his hands away and say boo. At times he plays this by himself and then just laugh at himself. What a funny boy!

He is now walking!

Yes he started walking April 11, just 10 days before his first birthday! It is so much fun to watch. He has not mastered how to stand up just in the middle of the floor without help. So he crawls over to the couch and stands up and away he goes. I love to watch him. My favorite part is when he gets going to fast and wipes out. It never gets old. He just looks around and gets back up.

As you can tell he loves to play with all my kitchen utensils. The pot that is on the floor behind him is used with his wooden spoon to stire. It gets kind of loud at times. He has even managed to wake Russell up with all of his stirring.
Along with the wooden spoon he loves to play with measuring spoons and measuring cups. Some days I wonder why we even bother with toys.

Dress-up

Why is it so fun to dress your kids up in the most out of date cloths? I get a good laugh out of it. Russell was given a bunch of cloths from someone that he works with. Most of them were to small for Derick but he kept pulling this outfit out of the box so Russell put it on him. He then walked around the house like it was no big deal. Russell and I just sat there and laughed. Oh what it would be like to be a kid and not have any worries in the world and not care what others thought of you.

Talk, Talk, Talk

While we are at home Derick will just talk and talk but if we go out anywhere he turns into a mute. I am not sure why but he seems a bit shy.We have noticed that he is staring to talk a bit.

The things he will say are...

Dad, Da, Daddy

Ma, Mom, Momma

Book

bubble

Baby

He just started to say baby today. He will also shake his head for No and wave bye to people.

He is getting so big and growing up so fast!

Nice days have come and gone

Poor kid! Derick loves to be outside, but the weather has turned cold again so he has to stay in. I feel bed for him.
This day I took him outside to walk around and wait for Grandma and Grandpa Hayman to come and visit. He was loving being outside. We have never really has shoes on him except if we are going to church so this we new for him to walk in shoes. He did pretty good. He is still really unsure of the grass. It is a bit poky for him so he will just sit there and not put his hands down. It is funny to watch.

Little climber

I had better watch out I think I have a climber on my hands. I had unloaded the dishwasher and because I am short I have to use a step stool to put a few things away. I turned my back for only a second to wipe off the counter and Derick had climbed the step stool and he was helping himself to what ever he could reach. He was so proud of himself, it was pretty funny to see.

Let me help you Mom

Derick is such a BIG help. If things are put away then he thinks they need to be taken out. At one time this would frustrate me but now I just let him do it so that I can get a few things done and then I go clean up after him. I am so glad that we got baby locks put on all the cabinets that we could. He really loves the drawers in the kitchen and in the bathroom. One of theses days he is going to start putting things away after he gets them out but I suppose that day is far off.

Going to be walking before long

We got Derick a walker wagon for Christmas and he is loving it. He takes the thing all over the place. He even throws a fit when it get stuck and he bits the handle bar. It is almost like watching an old man walking with a walker. He sticks his little butt out and off he goes as stiff legged as passable. He also loves to walk holding on to Russell's or my fingers. One of these days he is just going to take off and we are going to be shocked.
