Can't keep the boy down!

Derick has now decided that crawling is not so much fun and that he would rather be standing. He is very daring and half the time I have to close my eyes because I am so afraid of him getting hurt. He is way to trusting and then he falls, wines a bit, and gets us and dose it again.
He will use anything to help his stand up. If he gets into the bathroom he uses the tub or toilet. Today he was trying to reach for the toilet water. How gross is that? He will also just use a random wall and then he falls and crashes and gets frustrated.

He is getting so big. It is a lot of fun to watch him grow up.

Derick gets to go on our trip after all!

We are going to France around Christmas time and we have been looking for a bag big enough to stuff Derick in. Well we finely found one so I guess he gets to go with us. I am only kidding. We have been looking for a BIG diaper bag to fit all of his stuff in and I finely found one. We needed something that was going to hold his bottles upright but it also had to be really big because the flights are really long.
When I brought the bag home Russell put Derick in it right away and he loved it. He thought it was great.
We are looking forward to our trip, it should be a lot of fun. We are hoping that Derick dose really good. It is hard to know what to bring and how much to pack and so on. If you have any advise I would love to hear it.
(Thanks for the outfit Lindsey)

All Ready For Church

Abbi sent Derick some cloths. They are so cute and we love to use them. He looks so grown up and cut. What a happy boy. Thanks Abbi.

Our Little Squirt

Derick loves to play with pop and water bottles. I thought this was pretty funny.

Helping Daddy

Russell was being a big help to me and folding laundry. He ran upstairs to put some of it away and Derick decided to help hi while he was gone. He was having a great time playing in the folded laundry. It was pretty funny to see. He looks like he would never do anything wrong.

Getting Around

Derick has decided that he loves to crawl and get around. He loves to see what he can get into. Russell has followed him around and put outlet covers on because outlets seem to be his favorite toy. He is now trying to stand when ever he get the chance to hold onto something. He seems much more happy now that he can go were he wants and get what he wants. It sure is fun to watch him grow.

Biter Biscuits Mess

Derick has become a BIG fan of biter biscuits. He is such a mess by the time he gets done. The other day he even had it on his socks. I love to give them to him so that I can get stuff done. I am to chicken to just give it to him so I put it in a mesh bag thing so he doesn't choke. That is one of my biggest worries is that he will choke. I know that at some point he will be ready for chunky things but not just yet. He loves his biter biscuits until it is time to clean up. He is not such a fan of that.

Bath Time Fun

Derick really loves taking a bath. I make sure to give him one every morning. When he was way little he got 2 a day because he would spit up so much and partly because I was bored. He loves to play in the water. I guess that makes him part Hayman. When he gets in the tub he talks and talks. I think it might have something to do with his ears being under water and he can hear himself. It is so fun to watch him kick his legs and play. He even likes to turn over sometimes. (I don't like that part.) As you can tell he loves his rubber duckies. They are no longer just bath toys he takes them out of the tub with him and chews on them for a long time.

Party Time!

Derick was invited to his first birthday party. His little friend Lydia turned 1. It was a fun party! They had cake and opened presents and then each family got to carve a pumpkin. As you can tell Derick was all into it.

He loved playing in the goo and the seeds. I had to watch to make sure that he did not put them in his mouth. He tried a couple of times but mostly he liked the feel of the pumpkin guts.
I love this picture, Derick is so into what Russell is doing. He always wants to be a part of everything.

Derick would have played with the pumpkin all night if we would have let him. He did not get as dirty as we thought he would but I still striped him down. It was so much fun to watch him play in the pumpkin.

To Young For A Sucker?

A few days ago I decided to have myself a green apple sucker. As I was eating it Derick kept on looking at me, so I decided to let him try it. He LOVED it! I could not get the thing away.
When I decided that he had more then enough I started to bite it so that it would get smaller and smaller. Soon enough it was gone. This did not make him very happy at all. He cried and cried for about 15 min. It was not just a sad cry it was a MAD cry. I even tried to give him a bottle to take his mind off of it. He wanted no part of that.

Soon he got really tired and was falling a sleep but would wake up and cry for a little bit and then he would doze off again. It was pretty cute to watch him eat the sucker but it was not so cute when I took it away. Poor boy!

ARR MATEY!

This past weekend we had a trunk or treat at the church. Our church building is really small. I must say that it was pretty wired to have a Halloween party in the same room as we have sacerment meeting. There were a bunch of games to play and good food to eat.
It was so fun to dress Derick up as a pirate. I think Russell had more fun with it than I did. I was able to make his costume for $3. I just got the dollar a yard material from Wal-Mart and made it up. But Russell did not think that the the costume was complete with out an earring or 2. So he spent way more on the magnetic earrings then I did on the whole costume.
I must admit he was way cute. I found his hook and knife at the dollar store. He absolutely loved playing with them.

I made his eye patch out of some felt and elastic. I thought that he would take it off for sure but it did not seem to bother him.

Derick is getting to be so much fun. He is also turning into a Daddy's boy. He loves to be with Russell. It is great to see.

6 Months Old Today

Happy Half Birthday to you, Happy Half Birthday to you, Happy Half Birthday to Derick, Happy Half Birthday to you! It is crazy to think that we have had Derick in our family for 6 months now. He is getting so big. Yesterday Grandma Bishop and Aunt LaNae came to visit. Derick loved getting spoiled. He loves to have new faces come and visit. It must be more entertaining then just mom and dad. When Grandma Bishop was her she brought a few new things for Derick to wear this winter. She also brought some things from Aunt Lindsey. Thanks so much RosaLee and Lindsey now Derick will be warm this winter.

I had to take Derick to the Doctor today for his 6 month check up. He has gained a few pounds but only grew about half of an inch. He has always been a long baby and Russell and I are both on the short end so we thought that one of these days he was just going to stop growing so long. Well he did! But he is healthy and doing well. He had to get 4 shots. It was so sad he cried and cried. He always cries when he gets shots but this was different, he seemed like his feelings were really hurt. Poor boy!
The Doctor told me to start feeding him some vegetables. So we decided to start with green beans. Well as you can see he was not a big fan. He was gaging and spitting it out. I was laughing so hard. I loved the faces he was making. The Doctor said that he would probably eat a whole jar of it, not so he ate about 1/4 of a jar and was done.

I love this picture because you can see his 2 little teeth on the bottom. It is the only picture that I have gotten of his teeth.

Aunt Lindsey Came To Visit

Lindsey came to stay the night with us and play with Derick. It was a lot of fun. Russell made dinner and than we decided to play dress up. Derick was the doll of course. We put some boots and mittens on him as well as his Halloween costume. He was not sure what we were all laughing at. It was pretty funny.
Lindsey stayed with Derick for a couple of hours so that Russell and I could go on a date. We have only really left him one other time. It was great. Thanks Lindsey! We went and saw the movie Eagle Eye. It was not that great but it was nice to just be with Russell. We have missed that. When we got home Derick was sound asleep. Thanks again Lindsey! Russell thought that I worried to much about him while we were at the movie because I looked at my cell phone a few times. I couldn't help it. Russell tried to put my mind at ease by telling me that Lindsey has more experience with kids then we ever will. That is very true but I am still the mom and worry. We really had a great evening. Lindsey is the best, we love you!

Derick's First Play Date

This week we got together with some friends form church and had our first play group. It was a lot of fun. It also gets us out of the house and around other people. Derick is still a bit little to play with other kids but he loves to watch them and see what they are doing. So for play group we went to the park for an hour and a half or so. Derick loved to be pushed in the swing. He thought it was so fun. There are 2 little girls in our branch ( and also in play group) that are just a bit older then Derick. They are not sure what to think of him, so they just watch him and poke his eyes every now and again. He doesn't seem to mind to much. We will have pay group every week. So we can look forward to that. Derick is getting more fun every day!

Some of the best toys in life... are not toys at all.

Derick has found a new toy that he loves. It is an empty Mylicon drop bottle. He gets so excited when he sees it, he kicks his legs and giggles. He loves to put it in his mouth and hum. His favorite trick is to put it in his mouth and blow hard and it pops out. He has been playing with this bottle for a few days now. We even had to bring it to Church with us. It is so fun to see what he will come up with next. What a funny little boy.

Grandma X 2 came to visit

Both Grandma Bishop and Grandma Hayman drove from Grand Island to see Derick yesterday. It had been a while since they had seen him. We had a nice visit. Derick was not feeling the best because of a cold and cutting another tooth but he was a good sport. We all went to lunch together and were able to visit for a few hours. It was a lot of fun to see the Grandma's with Derick. It's nice that both Grandma's live in the same town and are friends. We are looking forward to Aunt Lindsey coming to visiting in a couple of weeks. We love to have company.

From Crabby to Calm

It has been a rough past couple of days for all of us. Derick has been miserable for about 4 days. Russell and I were having to tag team. I would be up at night with him 3 or 4 times and then Russell would come home from work and take him for a few hours so that I could sleep for a bit. Derick finely got a tooth to pop through on Sunday. YEAH! The only thing that would make him happy was to go on a walk so we did a lot of that. My only wish is that he would of had more teeth pop through at one time and not just one. He has been such a happy boy now that his mouth dose not hurt.

The Past Five Months

Sleeping In His Crib

Derick is now almost 5 months old. It is great! He loves to smile and play. WE are now working on getting him to sleep in his crib. I have always put him in bed with me because I was in survival mode. He had colic for about 4 months and I did what ever worked so that I could get a bit of sleep.
We are doing pretty good about getting him to sleep for a bit in his bed. He will take at least one nap a day in there and he will sleep for a bit of the night in his crib. It really is like new found freedom.
Little by little we will get him sleeping all of the time in there. I can't wait!
