ARR MATEY!

This past weekend we had a trunk or treat at the church. Our church building is really small. I must say that it was pretty wired to have a Halloween party in the same room as we have sacerment meeting. There were a bunch of games to play and good food to eat.
It was so fun to dress Derick up as a pirate. I think Russell had more fun with it than I did. I was able to make his costume for $3. I just got the dollar a yard material from Wal-Mart and made it up. But Russell did not think that the the costume was complete with out an earring or 2. So he spent way more on the magnetic earrings then I did on the whole costume.
I must admit he was way cute. I found his hook and knife at the dollar store. He absolutely loved playing with them.

I made his eye patch out of some felt and elastic. I thought that he would take it off for sure but it did not seem to bother him.

Derick is getting to be so much fun. He is also turning into a Daddy's boy. He loves to be with Russell. It is great to see.

6 Months Old Today

Happy Half Birthday to you, Happy Half Birthday to you, Happy Half Birthday to Derick, Happy Half Birthday to you! It is crazy to think that we have had Derick in our family for 6 months now. He is getting so big. Yesterday Grandma Bishop and Aunt LaNae came to visit. Derick loved getting spoiled. He loves to have new faces come and visit. It must be more entertaining then just mom and dad. When Grandma Bishop was her she brought a few new things for Derick to wear this winter. She also brought some things from Aunt Lindsey. Thanks so much RosaLee and Lindsey now Derick will be warm this winter.

I had to take Derick to the Doctor today for his 6 month check up. He has gained a few pounds but only grew about half of an inch. He has always been a long baby and Russell and I are both on the short end so we thought that one of these days he was just going to stop growing so long. Well he did! But he is healthy and doing well. He had to get 4 shots. It was so sad he cried and cried. He always cries when he gets shots but this was different, he seemed like his feelings were really hurt. Poor boy!
The Doctor told me to start feeding him some vegetables. So we decided to start with green beans. Well as you can see he was not a big fan. He was gaging and spitting it out. I was laughing so hard. I loved the faces he was making. The Doctor said that he would probably eat a whole jar of it, not so he ate about 1/4 of a jar and was done.

I love this picture because you can see his 2 little teeth on the bottom. It is the only picture that I have gotten of his teeth.

Aunt Lindsey Came To Visit

Lindsey came to stay the night with us and play with Derick. It was a lot of fun. Russell made dinner and than we decided to play dress up. Derick was the doll of course. We put some boots and mittens on him as well as his Halloween costume. He was not sure what we were all laughing at. It was pretty funny.
Lindsey stayed with Derick for a couple of hours so that Russell and I could go on a date. We have only really left him one other time. It was great. Thanks Lindsey! We went and saw the movie Eagle Eye. It was not that great but it was nice to just be with Russell. We have missed that. When we got home Derick was sound asleep. Thanks again Lindsey! Russell thought that I worried to much about him while we were at the movie because I looked at my cell phone a few times. I couldn't help it. Russell tried to put my mind at ease by telling me that Lindsey has more experience with kids then we ever will. That is very true but I am still the mom and worry. We really had a great evening. Lindsey is the best, we love you!

Derick's First Play Date

This week we got together with some friends form church and had our first play group. It was a lot of fun. It also gets us out of the house and around other people. Derick is still a bit little to play with other kids but he loves to watch them and see what they are doing. So for play group we went to the park for an hour and a half or so. Derick loved to be pushed in the swing. He thought it was so fun. There are 2 little girls in our branch ( and also in play group) that are just a bit older then Derick. They are not sure what to think of him, so they just watch him and poke his eyes every now and again. He doesn't seem to mind to much. We will have pay group every week. So we can look forward to that. Derick is getting more fun every day!

Some of the best toys in life... are not toys at all.

Derick has found a new toy that he loves. It is an empty Mylicon drop bottle. He gets so excited when he sees it, he kicks his legs and giggles. He loves to put it in his mouth and hum. His favorite trick is to put it in his mouth and blow hard and it pops out. He has been playing with this bottle for a few days now. We even had to bring it to Church with us. It is so fun to see what he will come up with next. What a funny little boy.

Grandma X 2 came to visit

Both Grandma Bishop and Grandma Hayman drove from Grand Island to see Derick yesterday. It had been a while since they had seen him. We had a nice visit. Derick was not feeling the best because of a cold and cutting another tooth but he was a good sport. We all went to lunch together and were able to visit for a few hours. It was a lot of fun to see the Grandma's with Derick. It's nice that both Grandma's live in the same town and are friends. We are looking forward to Aunt Lindsey coming to visiting in a couple of weeks. We love to have company.
